What is Burke County Dollars for Scholars?

Burke County Dollars for Scholars is a locally operated and supported, non-profit, tax-exempt scholarship foundation located in Burke County, North Dakota.  It includes the Bowbells and the Burke Central School Districts.  The Burke Central School District consists of the Columbus, Flaxton, Lignite, and Portal communities. Operated by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, the mission of Burke County Dollars for Scholars is to expand access to educational opportunities by involving and assisting our community in the support of students and in the encouragement of educational achievement.

Burke County Dollars for Scholars is a chapter affiliate of Scholarship America, a nationally recognized non-profit student aid service organization.

Who may apply for the scholarship?

Dollars for Scholars believes any student of Bowbells or Burke Central (includes communities of Columbus, Flaxton, Lignite, and Portal) schools should have the opportunity to continue his or her education after graduation. Scholarships can be for two-year, four-year, or vocational and technical colleges. Youth and adults may be eligible.
